The Green Energy-Generating Gym Of the Future Has Arrived (sort of)

Date July 19, 2009

Well, well, well. Would you take a look at this Inhabitat article?

A human-powered energy-generating gym like Hong Kong’s is now taking shape in Seattle, turning human sweat into usable electric energy. By connecting spinning bikes to wind-generator motors, clients at Adam Boesel’s green microgym can generate enough electricity to power the gym’s music system or run their own personal DVD player.

Amazing. I was just talking about this in my piezo electricity post. (Just look at my last paragraph.) True it might not create large amounts of electricity, but

  • it’d make people more conscious of the energy they generated, and used
  • it’d save some money on electric bills
  • GREAT amounts of publicity for the business-in-question

Necessity is the mother of invention, as we know, but so are pioneers who aren’t afraid to jump in and be the first to try things out. And refine, going back to the drawing board if need be. Major props go to Adam Boesel for not being afraid to run with this idea. The more people see it, the farther it spreads, where hopefully some other curious scientist/entrepreneur will try to improve upon it.
