More Vertical Farm Ideas

Date July 22, 2009

I really, really love the idea of vertical farms. What’s not to love about growing food without wasting horizontal land space?

Architect Laurie Chetwood came up with this winning design for a bridge across London’s Thames river. From Inhabitat:

Recently Chetwood Architects unveiled a stunning proposal for a futuristic London Bridge that sprouts a towering vertical farm in the midst of the Thames river. The bridge’s solar-powered spires are crowned with wind turbines and house a self-sufficent organic farm and commercial center that takes advantage of renewable energy generation, efficient use of water, solar heating, and natural ventilation.

Ahh, I just love it when one innovative idea spawns off hundreds of others like this. Not all of them may be winners, but some of them are surely something to greatly consider for future endeavors. Do you have any ideas or improvements you’d like to see with vertical farms? Let me know in the comments.
